First of all, while commenting on her situation, Jamie-Lynn has spoken against
premarital sex. Wait, who said that? Yes, Britney Spears' sister in an interview
with CNN. She says it loud and clear: "It's better to wait! I understand
this message is coming kind of from the wrong messenger, but hey, isn't it better
to have this kind of message coming from someone who messed up their life, instead
of quietly aborting their baby and affirming the pro-choice philosophy in the
minds of youngsters?
Second, the girl is going to keep the baby. Isn't this good news? Don't we want a reversal of the mindsets in this area? When high profile personalities like the Jamie-Lynn or her sister or others form the entertainment industry begin to voice the right thing to do, aren't we supposed to encourage them?
I'm saying all of this, because I already heard Christian bloggers' comments and they weren't very nice.
My take on this development:
- Parents who have been lacking in this area and haven't had the wisdom to talk to their kids about premarital sex, can use high-profile cases like this one to talk to their kids, boys and girls.
- Pastors can use high-profile cases to address these cultural issues and not to let only the news-media to both report and "translate" the trends of the day.
- School boards, instead of giving out condoms at schools, can use these high profile cases to advance the cause for abstinence, which is the safest way for young people to stay clear of venereal diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
- Christians must find ways to express support for women who make the decision to keep their babies.
