27 Bulgarian Denominations and Civil Organizations Oppose The Proposal for Amendments of Religious Law

Sofia, October 13, 2009 -- A nationalist party in Bulgaria has proposed an Amendment to the  Religious Law, in an attempt to limit the freedoms of religious groups different from the State sanctioned Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

The sponsor of the bill, Tzveta Georgieva from the ultra-nationalist party "Ataka" ("Attack" in translation), has denied that the proposed amendment is in direct contradiction to the Bulgarian Constitution.    read more..

SOFIA, Bulgaria -- January 15, 2009 Bulgarian police beat brutally and later detained 158 people at a protest organized by university students, environmentalists and maternal organizations. Tensions have risen in Bulgaria since the beginning of the latest energy crisis caused by Russia's dispute with Ukraine. Bulgaria is one of the countries most dependent on energy from Russia. Diplomatic efforts haven't produced any results and electricity rationing has been enforced by the government.  read more..

The corruption of the present Bulgarian President and government have been the main topic of most Bulgarian related news in the last couple of weeks, not to mention months. The process that began already in the beginning of this year reached its culmination last week when a comission of the European Union dealing with corruption, reported that Bulgaria has done nothing to stop corruption. The president of the Balkan nation, formerly a Communist satelite, has been linked to mafia bosses who sponsored his election campaign.  read more..

Islamic wahhabi radicals continue to peneterate the territory of Bulgaria

SOFIA, Bulgaria - May 22, 2008 - The Bulgarian State Agency on National Security (DANS) has announced that the Islamic organization "Faith" is preaching Wahhabism in Bulgaria. Bulgarian information sources report that the organization is not officially registered, but in fact it this is a conflicts with another report that says that the organization was indeed found in the registers of Sofia City Court. It was registered in 2002 as a foundation under the name "Faith". The agents working on the case discovered that activities of the foundation do not correspond with the purposes laid out in the registration with the court. The founders of the foundation are three Bulgarian citizens who have graduated Islamic theological education in Saudi Arabia.  read more..
