A Future Without Google, Apple and Facebook?

So, should you be trying to imagine a future without Google, Apple, and Facebook? For sure. But it's not because some Web 3 decentralized 'app' or 'platform' will have upended their rule.

[not AI generated text]

I think that from now on, I have to preface all of my blogs with a [not generated by AI] disclaimer. We are already at a point where anything you read on the web might be fully or partially AI-generated text. And this is only the beginning. One day, sooner than we think, there will be 'human-generated' and 'AI-generated' labels on online content, just like there are food ingredient labels on products at the grocery store today. It's inevitable.

But who knows, maybe this is a good thing. Maybe it will spur more people to long for and appreciate genuine human connections more than ever. Maybe things will get really, really bad in this seemingly bottomless process of mankind's fall from grace.

I've been spending a good amount of time learning about the capabilities of these new technologies, and I have to tell you, they are mind-blowing. It's like Internet 2.0 is being reinvented, but it's not moving closer to the decentralized Web 3 utopia. It's the exact opposite. The amount of computing power and R&D resources needed to develop and deploy the current generation of AI technologies is staggering! The access AI (specifically OpenAI but others too) has to Deep Web data, currently hidden from the common man, is astounding. No decentralized, blockchainy, Web 3ish tech can come even close! This is sad, but in some ways understandable. Our centralized overlords have won again, at least for now.

So, should you be trying to imagine a future without Google, Apple, and Facebook? For sure. But it's not because some Web 3 decentralized 'app' or 'platform' will have upended their rule. Rather, it will most likely be because Microsoft will take them all out. Don't believe me? Watch this: https://youtu.be/q5I9lP2mf6M

I would love to hear your thoughts on this!
