I Hate Big Tech

I hate Big Tech. Because Big Tech hates me.

I hate big tech!

Yes, I have to use their products and services, but I sincerely hate them. Why?

Because they hate me.

How so, you might ask?

Because they are hypocrites and liars. They pretend they're creating products and services to make our lives better but they're really not. The truth is they are in a 24/7 war with each other over who will manage to lock us in better into their walled garden. That's what they are all about, not making our lives better.

I'll give you one example, but there are many. Let's take for example Reminders in iOS. Reminders, Apple's persistent effort to try to sound cool and different (big LOL right here), is the native iOS application for task management. Tasks are a huge part of life, are they not? It should be possible to convert an email into a task with ONE touch menu symbol in the email client GUI. But there's no such menu option. I should be able to dictate a to-do, or a task, or a reminder, or whatever you wanna call it, to Siri and it should get created in "Reminders". Which it can do. But guess what? This works ONLY if you use Apple's ecosystem! Oh, Siri is so smart, it can create Reminders, amazing! But this will only benefit you if you use all the rest of Apple's apps.

Basically, if you don't use Apple's iCloud ecosystem and let's say you are managing your email (which, again, every other email might have to become a task), tasks and calendar in Google, or Microsoft's 365, you're toast! Your amazing Siri-created-by-voice reminder is good for nothing because it won't show up in Google Task, or Microsot's ToDo apps. Because there's no native integration with anything else.

The same goes for Amazon's Alexa. It integrates with Google and Microsoft's calendar but...not with Reminders, or tasks, or anything else.

They each want you dependent and addicted to THEIR tech! Which is only good at certain things but not other things.

Sadly, there still aren't legit open source alternatives. NextCloud is still a hit-and-miss when it comes to configuring it to work with either iOS or Android devices.

It's maddening!

I'm not holding my breath for the day when I'll be able to purchase some well made smartphone that won't be configured to live off of my data like a parasite. It probably won't happen any time soon. Until then, more power to Musk. Take us to Mars where we might not need any of this, Mr. Musk. I'm starting to understand why the guy wants to leave this planet.
